Another UFO report expected this week, some incidents still unexplained

Image
The enduring debate about whether UFOs are caused by extraterrestrial beings will once again be front and center this week as U.S. intelligence agencies will provide Congress with an updated report on UFO incidents over the past year. Meanwhile, it appears that other more recent incidents are being attributed to weather balloons, other airborne clutter, and foreign surveillance, according to a U.S. official. Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines has until Monday to provide Congress with its first annual unclassified update on Unexplained Aerial Phenomena, the new term for UFOs, that includes all new UAP incidents over the past year and any previously unreported incidents. The report was required by the 2022 Defense Bill that mandated that the DNI provide an annual declassified update and a classified annex by Oct. 31 of every year through 2026. The update follows the DNI's first-ever report released in June 2022 that listed 144 UAP incidents, only one of which could b

Report: China targets 2 diplomatic allies with Pacific aid

CANBERRA, Australia -- Beijing was targeting its Pacific aid to new diplomatic allies Solomon Islands and Kiribati while Chinese financial support across the region continued to decline, the Lowy Institute reported Monday in its latest annual analysis of regional assistance. China’s aid to the Pacific has fallen from a peak of $287 million in 2016 to $187 million in 2020 — the lowest level since 2008, when the Sydney-based international policy think tank began quantifying support for developing island nations in the Pacific. At the same time, pandemic response measures drove Pacific aid to a record $4.25 billion in 2020, a 47% increase on the previous year, Lowy's Pacific Aid Map report showed. Only 5% of Chinese aid to the Pacific was allocated to pandemic-related support, the report found. The institute does not yet have complete data for 2021, but preliminary results suggest the decline in Chinese aid has continued. Pacific Aid Map Project Director Alexandre Dayant said Ch

Ukraine: Barrage of Russian strikes on key infrastructure

KYIV, Ukraine -- A massive barrage of Russian strikes on Monday morning hit critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities in apparent retaliation for what Moscow alleged was a Ukrainian attack on its Black Sea Fleet over the weekend. Loud explosions were heard across the Ukrainian capital in the early morning as residents prepared to go to work. Some of them received text messages from the emergency services about the threat of a missile attack, and air raid sirens wailed for three straight hours. Large areas of the city were cut off from power and water supplies as a result, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Local authorities were working to restore a damaged energy facility that supplies power to 350,000 apartments in the capital, he said. In Kharkiv, two strikes hit critical infrastructure facilities, according to the authorities, and the subway ceased operating. Officials also warned about possible power outages in the city of Zaporizhzhia resulting from the strikes

Two men who were exonerated in the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X will receive a $36 million settlement after lawsuits were filed on their behalf against both the city and the state of New York last year. New York City agreed to pay $26 million in settling a lawsuit filed on behalf of Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil Islam, Islam was exonerated posthumously in the killing. Meanwhile, the state of New York also agreed to pay an additional $10 million. A New York City Law Department spokesman told ABC News on Sunday evening that the settlement "brings some measure of justice to individuals who spent decades in prison and bore the stigma of being falsely accused of murdering an iconic figure." "Based on our review, this office stands by the opinion of former Manhattan District Attorney Vance who stated, based on his investigation, that 'there is one ultimate conclusion: Mr. Aziz and Mr. Islam were wrongfully convicted of this crime,'" he added. Arizona GOP Attorney General Calls Out Kari Lake, Election-Denying ‘Clowns’

Arizona GOP Attorney General Mark Brnovich slammed election deniers, including his state’s Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake, over election fraud claims. Brnovich spoke to “ 60 Minutes ” correspondent Scott Pelley about what he called “horseshit” claims about the 2020 presidential election in an interview that aired on Sunday. Advertisement Brnovich, who reportedly voted for election denialist and former President Donald Trump , reflected on Trump calling and asking him to refer to the 2020 election as fraudulent. Tory MP who backed cutting abortion time limit named minister for women - The Guardian

Maria Caulfield, a Tory MP who supported cutting the abortion time limit and voted against buffer zones outside clinics, has been named as minister for women, prompting criticism from charities and women’s rights groups. Caulfield, the MP for Lewes, was previously an officer of the all-party parliamentary “pro-life” group and voted against legalising abortion in Northern Ireland. Harriet Wistrich, the director of the Centre for Women’s Justice, said: “We are horrified that a clear opponent of abortion rights has been appointed minister for women.” “The vast majority of women want the right to choose,” she added. “Her appointment signals a potential restriction on women’s reproductive rights, which in turn is an attack on women’s autonomy and freedom. We hope Maria Caulfield will keep her personal opinions on the issue of abortion to herself.” In 2018, when Caulfield was the Tory vice-chair for women, she called for a debate on reducing the 24-week time limit for women to receive l

Yellowjackets Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

In the competitive world of television, creating a successful series can be difficult. Even when a series does hit all the right notes with audiences and critics, it can, due to the highly saturated nature of the TV market, still fall into obscurity. In recent years, with the rise of several world-dominating production companies like Netflix and Amazon, it is harder than ever to find the perfect recipe for a show. So when a show comes along that is both highly praised and highly watched, production companies must pounce on the opportunity to create more Seasons. One such show is Yellowjackets , the story of a girl's high school soccer team that is involved in a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness and must learn to survive. Critics and audiences alike were instant lovers of the show, with the original ten-episode Season proving such a hit that, just weeks removed from the Season 1 launch date, the writers team had reconvened following the green light for production on a script fo

Gove, who has returned to cabinet as levelling up secretary and appears on this week's programme, made the comments at the London Press Club awards. You too might feel relief that the crazy period of the Truss administration has come to an end, and that in Rishi Sunak we seem to have a prime minister who doesn't revel in scrapes and scandals, who doesn't have making headlines at the top of his to-do list. Now who might we be talking about? One of his ministers told me Sunak had "ended the Tory psychodrama with a careful reshuffle of all the talents and a focus on delivery", saying it was a sign of the recent turmoil that commentators see that as "boring". "It's actually s

Grey's Anatomy's Biggest Series-Changing Moments

Greys Anatomy premiered back in 2005 and is still going strong today. As with any show that’s been airing for that long there are bound to be some unforgettable moments. And, well, it’s a Shonda Rhimes show, so you know you’re bound for some intense drama. There are so many moments to choose from — from the most romantic, to the saddest, to the funniest. But what are the moments that changed the show forever? COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY 14/14 Addison’s Surprise Arrival Image via ABC Season 1 of the medical drama was relatively short. With only nine episodes under its belt, there wasn’t anything major happening. Sure, there were the illicit romances between interns and attendings, but the majority of the season was watching said interns gain their footing in the medical field. The season finale deals with a staff-wide outbreak of a sexually transmitted disease, and that seemed to be the biggest issue. That is, until the last few minutes of the episode. In what has now become on
