Lack of investment could leave 600,000 English properties at risk of flooding - The Guardian

In England more than 600,000 properties face flooding in the future without investment in drainage, a report from the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) has found. At the moment, 325,000 English properties have a 60% risk of flooding in the next decade, according to calculations by the NIC, due to a lack of investment in infrastructure. The report calls for stricter controls on building in flood-prone areas, as well as a £12bn investment in drainage over 30 years to bring our systems up to standard and stop lives being ruined by flooding. A combination of more extreme weather due to climate breakdown and increasing pressure on drains due to new developments is likely to push 230,000 more homes into the high risk category for flooding by 2055. If more impermeable surfaces are built across England , such as when people pave over their gardens, this could move another 65,000 properties into a high risk area. The report advises that the government should legislate to stop new

I Run This is a weekly interview series that highlights Black women and femmes who do dope shit in entertainment and culture while creating visibility, access and empowerment for those who look like them. Read my Gabrielle Union interview here . Audie Cornish is a radio icon in her own right, but let her tell it, she’s “a regular person listening to Beyoncé.” Advertisement Her exit from NPR after more than 15 years (hosting “Weekend Edition” in 2011 and “All Things Considered” since 2012) was big news. A big part of it was her tenacity as a journalist, from her humanizing coverage of the opioid crisis in Baltimore to eye-opening conversations with Barack and Michelle Obama, respectively. (Other women of color exiting NPR around the same time added fuel to the fire as conversations around diverse talent retention sparked, though Cornish explains it was just time for her to spread her wings.) Diego Calva on Narcos: Mexico's Representation of His Country

"There’s a lot of truth and that’s amazing, but there’s a lot of lies, too." Director Damian Chazelle warned Diego Calva that starring in his upcoming 1920’s Golden Age of Hollywood epic Babylon alongside heavyweights such as Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie would launch him into stardom. But fans of Narcos: Mexico might already recognize the relative newcomer as the Mexican drug lord Arturo Beltran Leyva in six episodes of the show’s third season. Even though its one of his first big roles, Calva spoke out against how Narcos: Mexico represented his country. Calva will star in Babylon as Manny Torres, a film fanatic from Mexico trying to make it in Hollywood just as silent movies gave way to talkies. Along the way, he finds camaraderie with two silent-era holdouts – silent film star Jack Howard (Pitt), as well as the it-girl Nellie LaRoy (Robbie). Since it’s the 30-year-old actor’s first big English-language role, Calva drew comparisons between himself and Torres

Indiana Jones 5: Antonio Banderas Reveals New Details About His Character

Although Antonio Banderas is honored to join Indiana Jones 5 and be part of the beloved franchise, he won’t have much screen time in the upcoming movie it seems. During an exclusive interview with Collider’s own Steve Weintraub for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish , Banderas revealed new details about his mysterious character, telling us that he only has a couple of scenes in the upcoming sequel. Taking place in 1969, Indiana Jones 5 brings Harrison Ford back as the legendary archeological explorer, Indy, in what is set to be his final theatrical adventure.
