NI weather: Flooding and disruption amid rain warning - BBC

There are reports of flooding in parts of Northern Ireland after heavy and persistent rain overnight.

More than 4cm of rain was recorded at Murlough in County Down between 18:00 GMT on Thursday and 08:00 on Friday.

Several other weather stations in Fermanagh, Armagh, Antrim, Down, and Londonderry also recorded more than 2cm of rain in the same period.

Trafficwatch NI reported a car stuck in flood water on the Island Road in Ballycarry in County Antrim.

The Department for Infrastructure organisation also reported that flooding had caused cars to come off the road and into a field in Dundrum, County Down.

A number of roads are affected by flooding as of 08:00 GMT on Friday:

The weather warning for Northern Ireland came into force at midnight on Thursday and will last until 10:00 GMT on Friday.

In the Republic of Ireland, a warning was issued for rain across Connacht and counties Donegal, Cavan, and Longford.

Met Éireann warned that heavy rain would cause some flooding. That warning expired at 8:00 local time on Friday.

A wind warning was also issued in parts of the Republic.

The weather station at Lough Fea recorded the wintry weather at about 17:00 GMT on Christmas Day, according to the Met Office.
